We often hear about meridians, pressure points, and lifelines that traverse our bodies. But what do we truly understand about these concepts?
When I started exploring and working with meridians, I couldn't envision what they were and was curious about what lay behind them. When you are curious about them is that the right blog for you.
To fully grasp the entire story, I want to start right from the beginning, back when we were still in our mother's womb, when a single cell divided into two.
During this process, two lines were formed, one of which is known as the conception vessel, referred to in Chinese as REN MAI, representing the front side of our bodies.
And representing our back is the steering vessel, known in Chinese as DU MAI.
We refer to it as the little energy cycle, which represents the initial Meridians.
These two Meridians oversee the other 12 Meridians.
Once the process begins, other organs, such as the heart and the digestive system, start to develop. Therefore, it is not surprising that the heart meridian belongs with the small intestine to the fire element. However, it doesn't end there; as our other organs begin to develop, such as the lungs and large intestine (metal elements), the kidneys and bladder (water element), the stomach and spleen (earth element), the liver and gallbladder (wood element), and our secondary fire element organs, the triple heater and cardiovascular system.
As our organs develop, our Meridians also advance, along with the pressure points located on them.
The wonderful aspect of the Meridian and pressure points in Shiatsu is that we can sense with our thumbs what the client's body requires. Each pressure point on our body carries a distinct significance. In Shiatsu, we examine every pressure point and identify its location.
At times, when clients indicate where they feel pain on their body—whether it's localized to one spot or spreads throughout their entire body—I can discern which Meridian (lifeline) is affected and address it using that insight.
Thank you for reading. In my upcoming blog, I plan to talk about the elements.
